PNP bids out P40-M Yolanda projects

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police is bidding out some P40.16 million worth of construction projects for the PNP headquarters in Eastern Visayas, which was damaged during the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda last year.

The amount covers the repair of the damaged building and its facilities, a gymnasium and a main gate among others, said Senior Superintendent Eusebio Mejos, PNP Region 8 chief of the directorial staff.

In December, the PNP said about P225 million worth of its property was damaged in five regions in the Visayas.

PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima earlier sent teams to assess the damaged properties and to account for all PNP personnel in the region.

PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said the amount of the damage was based on reports from the regions of Caraga, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) and Western, Central and Eastern Visayas. 

Sindac said the figure could still go up if pieces of equipment and other PNP property would be included in the assessment.

In a memorandum, the PNP Region 8 in Camp Kangleon, Palo, Leyte, through the bids and awards committee, notified the contractors to bid for the projects.
