MANILA, Philippines - Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation on Thursday seized around 2, 000 sacks of rice from the National Food Authority (NFA) being repacked and sold as commercial rice in Iloilo.
The NBI agents swooped down on a warehouse, owned by Dennis Devicente, located in Barangay Napnud, Leganes, Iloilo and chanced upon some workers transferring the sacks of NFA rice to commercial sacks of rice.
Aside from confiscating the commercial sacks, authorities also padlocked the warehouse to ensure that no evidence would be tampered with.
Based on NBI intelligence reports, the sacks of rice came from an NFA warehouse in Roxas, Capiz and supposedly would be sold in Iloilo.
Devicente will be slapped with a case for violation of Presidential Decree No. 4 or Diversion and Illegal Distribution of NFA rice.
