Lanao officials voice support for PNoy
COTABATO CITY, Philippines - Local officials in Lanao del Sur remain loyal to President Benigno Aquino III despite the continuing controversy sparked by the Supreme Court’s having declared the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) as unconstitutional.
“For us he is the country’s best chief executive so far,” Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. said in a statement emailed on Sunday.
He said it was only during the time of President Aquino when the province received big government funds for various peace and development initiatives.
Adiong admitted that the bulk of the allocations for his province were sourced from the DAP, already declared unconstitutional by the high tribunal.
“Before that Supreme Court ruling came out, we already received substantial funds to build good roads, sufficient water systems, irrigation facilities and other vital infrastructure that are now mostly completed,” Adiong said.
More than 300 Lanao del Sur provincial employees wore yellow dresses in their symbolic Monday flag ceremony last week to highlight their continuing political patronage of President Aquino.
