2 young siblings killed in landslide

MANILA, Philippines - Two young siblings were killed when their shanty was covered by cascading soil during a landslide in Rodriguez town in Rizal yesterday, authorities said.

Police said neighbors in Barangay San Isidro came to the rescue of three-year-old Reir Amor and his six-month-old brother, John Michael, and rushed them to the Casimiro Ynares Memorial Hospital but the two failed to make it alive.

The boy’s mother, Maryjane, survived the landslide with minor injuries.

Authorities said the landslide occurred at around 3:30 a.m. yesterday while Mrs. Amor and her two children were sound asleep in their shanty which stood on a hillside. – Non Alquitran, Jaime Laude
