Chinese ship rescues 4 Pinoy fishermen in Palawan

MANILA, Philippines - A Chinese cargo ship rescued four Filipino fishermen who were floating for two days off the coast of Palawan after their vessel was destroyed by strong winds at the height of typhoon Glenda.

Quoting Philippine Coast Guard Port State Control Commander Winchester Florentino, a radio report said the crew of Chinese vessel MV Pacific Pioneer, which came from Hong Kong, fished out the Filipinos Antonio Bon, RJ Mojico, Jaymar Selin, and Marjohn Aballe.

The four, all residents of Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, are the crew of the the fishing vessel MBCA John, the report said.

The report said that the fishermen left Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro for Palawan on July 9.

They were unaware that time that there was a typhoon approaching the country as their transistor broke down, the report said.

Strong winds and waves destroyed their boat's sail and their vessel sunk on July 15, the report added.

After their rescue, the four immediately underwent medical examination. They are expected to return to Mindoro today, the report said.
