COTABATO CITY, Philippines - Two motorcycles and a makeshift roadside eatery were damaged on Wednesday by a rampaging water buffalo that went berserk while being towed to the city slaughterhouse.
City Veterinarian Robert Malcontento, who helped the local police investigate on the incident, said the large bull was made distraught by the noise and sight of the vehicles passing by while being brought by its owner to a butcher.
Senior Supt. Rolen Balquin, director of the Cotabato City police, said responding policemen decided to shoot the animal with their assault rifles when it was about to attack pedestrians.
Malcontento said the buffalo died instantly from gunshot wounds in the head.
Balquin said the owner of the water buffalo volunteered to pay for the repair of the damaged motorcycles and roadside eatery.
