MANILA, Philippines - Alleged substandard angle bars worth some P40 million were confiscated in a police raid in General Trias, Cavite Tuesday.

Director Benjamin Magalong, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said a search warrant issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 53 covered the raid on the warehouse of Steeltower Steel Corp. in Golden Gate Business Park, Barangay Buenaviste, General Trias.

Senior Superintendent Bartolome Bustamante, who headed the CIDG raiding team, said the company owners, Andrew Go, Jason Ang – who were both apprehended in the premises – Alex Go, James Ang and Jintuan Wu could be charged with violation of Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act.

Last April, Magalong said Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery Secretary Panfilo Lacson recommended to Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo to deputize the CIDG to conduct operations against substandard materials.
