LPA to boost southwest monsoon this weekend
MANILA, Philippines - A low-pressure area (LPA) over Casiguran, Aurora will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains in most parts of Luzon and western Visayas this weekend, the state weather bureau said yesterday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA will dump moderate rains over the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, and Cagayan Valley.
The LPA has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said.
As of 10 a.m. yesterday, the LPA was spotted at 110 kilometers east-northeast of Casiguran.
If it becomes a tropical depression, it will be locally named “Florita†and will be the sixth cyclone to enter the country this year.
Metro Manila, central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and western Visayas will still experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.
