Lightning strike kills 2 in Ilocos region

MANILA, Philippines - Two persons died and two others were hurt in two lightning electrocution incidents in the Ilocos region, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) said Friday.

Both incidents happened Wednesday within a span of one hour, an NDRRMC report showed.

The first incident happened in Barangay Inabaan Norte in Rosario La Union.

The victim, identified as Edmundo Laroya, 26, was cleaning the rice field with his father when a lightning suddenly struck him at around 3 p.m.

Laroya was rushed to the Rosario District Hospital for medical treatment but died on the way.

An hour later, lightning struck three persons who were cultivating land in Barangay Lantag in Sta. Cruz, Ilocos Sur.

A certain Bonifacio Fabro, 23, died while his companions, identified as Randy Fabro, 26, and Carlo Magno, 24, sustained injuries. The two survivors are still confined at the Sta. Lucia District Hospital. –  with reports from Venice Amoroso and Anna Bajo
