Cop slain, wife wounded in Batangas ambush
BATANGAS, Philippines – A police officer was killed while his wife was wounded when two motorcycle-riding men ambushed them as they were taking their four children to school in Tanauan City yesterday morning.
Police Officer 2 Estratuto Bagsic of the Regional Headquarters Support Group based in Camp Vicente Lim in Canlubang, Laguna, died at the scene while his wife Agnes was rushed to CP Reyes Hospital for treatment, said Superintendent Christopher Olazo, Tanauan police chief.
The couple’s children – aged 14, 13, 11 and 9 – were not hurt in the ambush. They are currently in the custody of the Tanauan City government’s social welfare and development office.
The Bagsic family was in an L-300 van when the assailants waylaid them in Barangay Santor at around 6:30 a.m.
“Although wounded, Bagsic managed to drive the vehicle a few meters away until the assailants caught up to them near the gate of the DBP Technopark,†Olazo said.
He said the assailants were shouting invectives as they shoot Bagsic.
The gunmen fled on a motorcycle, taking with them Bagsic’s service firearm.
Olazo said a special team was formed to determine the motive and the brains behind the killing.
