Tagum City hostage-taker, a police officer
DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The man who initially tried to rob a restaurant and later took two persons hostage in Tagum City, Davao del Norte Thursday night turned out to be a policeman.
Senior Police Officer 1 Ricky Juanir was shot dead by his fellow police officers after he reportedly refused to surrender when he rob at gunpoint the Makulay Restaurant on Pioneer Street.
Juanir, who belonged to the San Pedro police station in Davao City, was killed following a seven-hour standoff as he refused to surrender to the authorities.
His family claimed Juanir was not himself lately, and that he was noted to have reported to San Pedro police station on June 9.
Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon explained the responding police team had to launch the assault after the suspect refused to surrender despite negotiations with the local crisis committee.
