QC govt mulls curfew to address killings

MANILA, Philippines - Alarmed by the the series of killings in recent months, the Quezon City government is now seriously considering imposing a curfew to address the problem.

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista is also pushing for the massive installation of CCTV cameras along strategic areas in the city in an effort to further improve the crime watch and prevention mechanisms.

As this developed, Bautista on Friday called on Quezon City Police District to expedite the investigation on the ambush-slay of international race car driver Ferdinand "Enzo" Pastor.

Pastor was gunned down Thursday night by two gunmen riding on a motorcycle at the junction of Congressional and Visayas Avenue.

In his directive, Bautista urged the local police to intensify their efforts to determine the motives behind Pastor's killing.

"Please update me on the motive and leads of the case," the mayor said.

To date, QCPD head Chief Superintendent Richard Albano has already ordered an investigation into the killing of Pastor,  directing Superintendent Ariel Capocao of QCPD Station 3 to oversee the ongoing probe.

Albano also ordered investigators to retrieved the closed-circuit camera recordings stalled  along the areas at the time of the incident.

Initial reports showed that Pastor was gunned down by suspects riding-in-tandem at about 10:30 p.m. while on board a truck, loaded with a race car, Congressional Avenue corner Visayas Avenue.

Pastor and a companion, Paolo Salaza,  were reportedly on their way to Clark in Pampanga.

Investigators said the gunmen shot Pastor three times with a cal. 45 handgun before leaving the scene. Salazar was also wounded in the shooting.
