Race car driver killed in QC ambush - report
MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino race car driver was killed while his companion was wounded after they were ambushed by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Quezon City, Thursday night.
Reports said Enzo Ferndinand Pastor, 32, died from gunshot wounds in the head and neck.
Pastor's assistant, Paolo Salazar, was hit during the ambushed on the side of the body, reports said.
Initial reports showed that the victims were on board a truck (WSC-331) carrying a race car that Pastor would use in the final leg of Asia V8 race championship in Clark, Pampanga, when the two gunmen riding in tandem on a motorbike sped beside them.
The suspects then fired at them when they reached the corner of Congressional and Visayas avenues.
Police discounted robbery as motive because there were no valuables taken from the victims.
Pastor was the first Filipino who received the All-Star Award as Night of Champions from the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing gala in December last year in North Carolina, USA.
