Kidnap victim survives execution; brod-in-law slain
MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – A Cavite resident survived execution in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan on Monday in the hands of six men who rented his L-300 van but seized him and his brother-in-law a week earlier.
Policemen responding to a residents’ report on a commotion in the area found van rental owner Noah Corpuz bleeding from gunshot wounds in the back and rushed him to the hospital.
While Corpuz survived, his brother-in-law, Edwin Orsal, did not; his bullet-riddled body was found near the area in Barangay Kaypian where Corpuz was recovered.
Police said Corpuz and Orsal were snatched in Dasmariñas, Cavite last June 2 by six men who rented Corpuz’s L-300 van.
Investigation showed that the kidnappers demanded ransom, but it was not clear if the negotiations failed or not.
Last Monday night, the kidnappers took a blindfolded Corpuz and Orsal on a taxi to Barangay Kaypian where they shot the two reportedly with a shotgun and .38-caliber revolver.
Though sustaining five gunshot wounds in the back, Corpuz managed to run away, until the police came.
