Zambo City fire razes 100 houses

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – An unattended lighted candle during a rotational power outage triggered a four-hour fire that razed some 100 houses in a coastal village west of the city proper Wednesday night, authorities said.

No one was reported hurt in the fire that displaced some 500 residents in the village of Kampung Islam, said city fire marshal Superintendent Dominador Zabala.

Zabala said investigation showed that the blaze struck at 7:05 p.m. at the house of one Hadja Salip along Riles Drive and quickly spread throughout the slum community. Fire damage was estimated at P3 million.
