Gabriela hits gov't on Andrea Rosal's detention transfer
MANILA, Philippines - Women's rights group Gabriela on Thursday slammed the sudden transfer of Andrea Rosal, the daughter of the late New People's Army spokesman Roger Rosal, from the Philippine General Hospital to Taguig City Jail last night.
Gabriela said that Andrea's transfer was made without any court order presented to the legal counsel and human rights group which represents her.
"For Andrea Rosal’s case, court decisions are expedited and immediately implemented even without due information to her counsel but for the individuals and lawmakers who plundered the people’s money, every whim is granted," Gabriela secretary general Joms Salvador said.
She also scored the Aquino administration for the unjust treatment of Andrea and other political prisoners.
"We are enraged that while Andrea and other political detainees suffer from inhumane jail conditions and inadequate medical attention, the queen of pork, Janet Lim Napoles is given special care, provided with the best medical services and the most comfortable detention cell by Aquino," Salvador added.
She also reiterated Gabriela's call for the release of Andrea and 489 political prisoners facing trumped-up charges, including 14 National Democratic Front peace consultants protected by Joint Immunity and Safety Guarantees (JASIG).
"Rosal and other political prisoners should not be the ones in jail but the corrupt officials who have siphoned off the people’s money," Salvador.
Gabriela members will join the anti-pork barrel protest rally in Liwasang Bonifacio on June 12, Independence Day.
