Ex-councilor in Ifugao gunned down - report

MANILA, Philippines - A former town councilor in Ifugao province was shot dead by gunmen Tuesday night in Nueva Vizcaya.

A radio report said that Benedicto Manaul, 54, ex-councilor of Lamut town, died instantly from several gunshot wounds.

An initial police report said that Manaul was on board his motorcycle along the Diversion Road in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya when a white car drove by and its occupants fired at the former town official.

Manaul's killing is the seventh in Bagabag town in the span of four weeks, the report added.

Police have yet to determine the motive of Manaul's shooting.
