Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines – One of 10 suspected robbers who tried to rob a pawnshop and jewelry store in this city was shot dead by a security guard yesterday afternoon.

The armed men, who reportedly arrived on four motorcycles, barged inside the BHF Pawnshop and Gemline jewelry store along A. B. Fernandez Avenue, said Superintendent Christopher Abrahano, city police chief.

Abrahano said the robbers were disarming two of the security guards, when the third one managed to fire a shot hitting one of the suspects.

The gunfire caught the attention of the patrolling police officers, who responded to the scene prompting the robbers to escape on their motorcycles.

The suspects reportedly transferred to a waiting Innova van on Nable street leaving their motorcycles behind.

Pursuing policemen recovered four motorcycles and an M16 Armalite at the scene. Police have yet to identify the slain suspect.
