Batangas village chief shot dead

BATANGAS, Philippines - – A 57-year-old barangay chairman in Calaca town this province was shot dead in his house Tuesday night, authorities said.

Reports said the victim, Bernardo Buño, chairman of Barangay Puting Bato West, was talking to someone on his cell phone in the terrace when the gunman barged in and shot him several times with a .45-caliber pistol.

Although wounded, Buño was able to run inside his house but the gunman chased him and fired more shots at him, then fled on a black motorcycle, said Senior Inspector Jose Naparato, Calaca police chief.

Buño was rushed to the Metro Lemery Medical Center but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police recovered seven spent shells at the crime scene.

Probers were still clueless on the killing.
