3 soldiers face charges for beating up carpenter

BALER, Aurora, Philippines – Police have charged three rookie soldiers with serious physical injuries before the provincial prosecutor’s office Monday for beating up a 37-year-old carpenter during a brawl in a restaurant here last week.

Charged were Privates First Class Jesse Roque, 28; Jaypee Gutierrez, 27; and Efren Montefalco Jr., 30, all assigned with the Military Intelligence Branch of the Army’s 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division based at Fort Magsaysay in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.

The three soldiers were charged for beating up carpenter Antonio Macarayo following a confrontation at Freddie’s Resto Bar in Barangay Sabang here before dawn of May 23.
