DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least 100 victims of Typhoon Pablo, which struck Compostela Valley in 2012, can now take shelter in 100 new houses that were built for them in the town of New Bataan.
New Bataan was among the hardest hit by the typhoon that left more than 1,000 people dead and more than 500 others missing.
The new houses were built by Holcim Philippines in cooperation with the local government of New Bataan, which provided the one-hectare property where the structures were put up.
Compostela Valley Gov. Arthur Uy cited the design of the houses, which he said is much better than any low-cost housing projects.
The victims themselves reportedly took part in the building of the houses, Uy said.
A training center was also put up within the area for the residents’ livelihood training purposes.
