Convergys CAN projects help school children nationwide

MANILA, Philippines - With the new school year, Convergys has launched a number of its Community Action Network (CAN) projects for less fortunate school children in Manila, Cebu and Davao. 

As the country’s largest private employer, Convergys has over 55,000 employees across 34 operating sites nationwide.

For Convergys UP TechnoHub 1, Convergys Megamall and the recently opened Convergys UP TechnoHub 2, a partnership with He Cares Foundation has brought Convergys employees and even clients together to help street children in Quezon City. 

Employees have sustained their volunteerism since 2011, participating in feeding and hygiene programs, learning sessions, and value formation and music, art and sports activities.

Recently, the Convergys CAN volunteers carried out their yearly tradition of preparing back-to-school kits, personally distributing them during recent feeding, hygiene and learning sessions. 

In Cebu, CAN volunteers at Convergys’ i1 site at the Cebu IT Park partnered with the Action for Nurturing Children and Environment (ANCE) Inc. to reach children aged four to six in the vicinity of Carreta cemetery. 

Employee-volunteers treated 150 ANCE children to food, fun games, and free haircuts. The children were also given back-to-school supplies.

Convergys MDC in Quezon City and Convergys Abreeza in Davao have focused their CAN efforts on the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela, which invites organizations to take part in the cleanup and repair of public schools. 

The Davao volunteers returned to Tamayong Elementary School, which they have worked with in previous CAN projects. They repainted three classroom buildings and did minor repairs on walls and windows.

Convergys is a winner of the 2013 American Chamber of Commerce’s Corporate Social Responsibility Excellence Awards, particularly in the Improving Quality and Access to Education category, through its Community Action Network.
