Ex-Insurance Commission official dead in burglary

The Philippine Star

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – A former commissioner of the Insurance Commission lost his life after burglars ransacked his home in Bacoor, Cavite on Friday, police said.

Police said the house of 76-year-old Eduardo Malinis in Barangay Panapaan was in disarray and his laptop was reported missing.

Police said Malinis’ hands and feet were tied, his mouth plastered with packaging tape, and a shirt covered his head when he was found in the kitchen Friday afternoon.

Malinis was declared dead on arrival at the hospital due to asphyxia or inadequate oxygen supply in the body.

Authorities were still investigating the incident.

Malinis was reappointed to his old post in 2007 after then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo relieved Insurance Commissioner Evangeline Escobillo. – With Ed Amoroso
