PNP told to intensify hunt vs. QC shooting spree suspects

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang is directing the Philippine National Police (PNP) to intensify operations against those behind the recent series of shootings in Quezon City, leaving seven people dead.

In a televised press briefing on Monday, Presidential Communication Operations Office head Herminio Coloma Jr. said while the PNP continues to strengthen its campaign against criminal elements, citizens and communities should also remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities.

"Patuloy ang direktiba sa ating Philippine National Police na paigtingin ang kanilang pagtugis sa mga salarin sa mga insidente ng pagpatay at karahasan," Coloma said.

The Palace official made the statements while the Quezon City Police District has yet to arrest the persons who went on a shooting spree on Sunday.

According to a STAR report, the first shooting that killed one motorcycle rider happened at around 1:30 a.m. along Commonwealth Avenue near its intersection with Regalado Avenue.

Shortly after the first incident, a businesswoman was shot dead near Bronx street.

About 50 meters from the second victim, two people on a motorcycle were also killed in the third shooting.

Authorities said the description of the persons who killed the first four victims were the same.

A fifth shooting was also found along Commonwealth Avenue in Fairview. Two still unidentified persons were also gunned down along Commonwealth Avenue near Tandang Sora Avenue. - Louis Bacani
