4 Iloilo soldiers sacked for drug use

Jennifer P. Rendon - The Philippine Star

ILOILO, Philippines  â€“ Four men of the Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion based in Miag-ao, Iloilo were dismissed from the service after they were found positive for illegal drug use.

Maj. Ray Tiongson, spokesman of the 3rd Infantry Division, declined to name the four soldiers but said one held the rank of corporal and the rest were privates first class, all assigned to the 82nd IB’s Alpha Company based in San Remigio, Antique.

“Their immediate superior initiated the drug test after it was observed, and even reported, that they could be using illegal drugs,” Tiongson said.

“(This) will serve as warning to our soldiers that we mean business in weeding out the undesirables from the military service,” he said.

Earlier, the 3rd ID leadership also ordered the dismissal of 10 soldiers found positive for illegal drug use, too.

The 10 were reportedly among 113 soldiers found using prohibited drugs during a series of random drug tests conducted all over the country.                         â€“
