Another bus firm faces suspension for Batangas mishap

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will come up with a decision whether to suspend the operations of another bus firm for a fatal road mishap in Batangas last Sunday.

LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez said the Board is still waiting for the official report on the accident involving a Jam Liner bus where one was killed while over 50 others were injured along the Star Tollway in Malvar, Batangas.

"Kapag dumating na sa amin ang mga formal reports ay dedesisyunan namin ito kung magkakaroon tayo ng preventive suspension order sa pangyayaring ito. Hopefully within today or tomorrow ay makuha na namin ang magiging basehan ng aming magiging desisyon," Ginez said Monday in a radio interview.

Pending the decision of the Board, Ginez said the Jam Liner management is obligated to give medical and financial assistance to the victims.

Initial report showed that the southbound-Jam Liner bus (DXV-571) was speeding along the tollway when it was hit by DLTB Bus (UYC-264) around 1:11 p.m., causing it to fall on its side.

One of the victims, who lost an arm,  was brought to a hospital in Lipa City but later died, the report said.
