Over 2,000 Manila cops deployed for Labor Day protests

MANILA, Philippines - More than 2,000 policemen have been deployed to maintain peace and order during the simultaneous protest actions by various groups in Manila on Thursday during the celebration of Labor Day.

Some 2,600 cops from the Manila Police District have been assigned to three areas in Manila, particularly Don Chino Roces Bridge in Mendiola, US embassy along Roxas Blvd., and the Liwasang Bonifacio, the report said.

Some policemen at the MPD have also been placed on stand by if additional forces are needed, the report added.

Authorities are expecting around 5,000 protesters to troop to the various rally sites in Manila.
