3 NPAs slain in Compostela

MANILA, Philippines - Three communist rebels were killed yesterday in an encounter with Army troops in Montevista, Compostela Valley, the military said.

The 10-minute clash, according to Army reports, ensued after members of the 25th Infantry Battalion discovered an abandoned rebel camp in Sitio Tibungco in Barangay Poblacion, Montevista town.

Armed Forces’ Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman Capt. Alberto Caber said New People’s Army rebels were conducting extortion activities in the area.
