Victory Liner assures riding public following mishap

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Following Monday’s accident in Olongapo City, Victory Liner yesterday assured its riding public that it would continue to strictly enforce the pre-departure inspection and preventive maintenance of its buses.

Hernan Valencia, Victory Liner spokesman, said the company’s management strictly adheres to safety standards enforced by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

The LTFRB yesterday placed 42 buses under the franchise covering the unit involved in the accident, under preventive suspension while it investigates the mishap.

According to Victory Liner, its drivers are given regular training on safety to ensure that passengers reach their destinations in safety and relative comfort.

In the Olongapo incident, the driver of the Victory Liner bus tried to avoid hitting a pedestrian who darted across the street, sending the bus plunging into a shallow creek.

The pedestrian died on the spot while 38 passengers were immediately given medical attention at the Gordon Hospital. Of the 38, 10 remained in the hospital, Valencia said.

He said the Victory Liner management has taken care of the needs of the injured, with those sent home provided with financial assistance so they can continue their medication.

He said the company has also gotten in touch with the pedestrian’s family to  shoulder the burial expenses and extend other financial help.  – With Bebot Sison
