Villar to put up P740M water treatment plant in Zambo

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines -  A company owned by former Senate President Manuel Villar has invested P740 million for the construction of a water treatment plant inside the Zamboanga City Economic and Freeport Authority (ZAMBOECOZONE).

Primewater Infrastructure Corporation (PIC), represented by Villar as chairman emeritus, formally signed a lease of agreement with ZAMBOECOZONE chairman Chris Arnuco in a simple ceremony held Monday in a hotel here.

“This is a big opportunity. It’s not only the money that the Primewater will infuse but the signal of investment in Zamboanga City after the siege incident,” said Villar, who represented his son Paolo, chairman of the PIC.

The PIC will treat and supply 50,000 cubic meters of bulk water daily to the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) for distribution to the residences in the city’s district in the west coast and 15,000 cubic meters per day to the ZAMBOECOZONE.

Villar said PIC is ready to begin the project.

The project, which will start July is expected to be completed within a year, and  expected to generate jobs in Zambonga.
The venture will encompass a 50-hectare area at sitio Anuling, Upper Pamucutan.

Most of the leased space will be used for water retention and forest protection. -  Roel Pareño
