Police exec killed in Mandaluyong ambush - report

MANILA, Philippines - A police officer based in Bataan province was killed while his wife was wounded after they were ambushed by gunmen in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday.

A radio report said that Police Inspector Elmer Santiago, 45, an intelligence officer in Bataan, could no longer be revived when he was brought to the Polymedic Hospital.

Meanwhile, Santiago's wife, Agnes, is now being treated at the same hospital for gunshot wounds, the report added.

Initial investigation showed that the two victims, on board a black Toyota Vios, was cruising along Talumpong Street around 10 a.m.  when two motorcycle riding men fired on them after reaching Barangka Drive , Brgy. Malamig.

After the firing on the couple, who just came from their house in Pasig City, the gunmen, who believed to have used an assault rifle, fled the scene.

Police are still looking into the incident.
