Taguig steps up security for Lent

MANILA, Philippines - The Taguig City government, in close coordination with the Taguig Police, has stepped up security presence in the city for the Holy Week.

“This is a time for reflection. We also acknowledge that this is also a time when people go home to their provinces to be with families and relatives and take advantage of the long vacation. With that, we commit to ensuring the safety of residents, travelers and tourists during this time,” Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano said.

Taguig City Police chief, Senior Superintendent Arthur Felix Asis, said the city police will be deploying additional personnel in areas of convergence and areas that might be prone to incidences of criminal activity.

“An upsurge of crowds at bus stations and major thoroughfares are expected as people go on vacation during the entire Holy Week. The Taguig police will launch aggressive police security operations and will maximize deployment of traffic enforcers within our area of responsibility,” Asis said.

Asis added that they will also be conducting police patrols “round-the-clock” to secure residential areas and places that are densely populated.

The Taguig City government will also set up Public Assistance Centers (PACs), as well as “Lakbay Alalay” Motorist Assistance Centers for fast response in cases of vehicular accidents.

“Travelers and tourists need not worry because we are doing everything to make the Lenten season peaceful so that no untoward incident will happen,” Cayetano said. - Mike Frialde
