Heavy rainfall alert up in typhoon-ravaged Samar due to LPA

Louis Bacani - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau issued a heavy rainfall warning over parts of Western and Eastern Samar before Monday noon due to the low pressure area (LPA) that was previously Tropical Depression "Domeng."

The yellow rainfall advisory issued at 11:50 a.m. said moderate to heavy rains over portions of Western and Eastern Samar may continue for two to three hours.

Light to moderate rains may also persist for two to three hours over portions of ‪‎Leyte‬ and ‎Biliran Island.

"Flooding is possible in low lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its rainfall advisory.

The weather agency said the LPA was located at 120 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 10 a.m. today.

PAGASA said this weather system will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

The rest of Visayas, Bicol region and Mimaropa will also be cloudy with scattered light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Moreover, the seaboard over Eastern Visayas will be moderate to occasionally rough, PAGASA said.

The region of Eastern Visayas, which includes the province of Samar, was devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda last year.
