Ben Serrano - The Philippine Star

BUTUAN CITY , Philippines   â€“ Another church in the Caraga region has fallen prey to burglars, this time in Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, authorities said.

Police said the San Lorenzo Ruiz Diocesan Shrine – the fifth church burglarized in Caraga since February – lost collections amounting to P35,000. The church secretary, Marilyn Baya Flores, discovered the burglary last Friday morning.

Flores told police that the burglars gained entry by cutting the steel grills on the window.

Last March 25, the Church of the Mother of Perpetual Help Parish in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur also lost collections amounting to P70,000 to burglars.

In February, burglars broke into three churches in this city, carting away cash, valuable items, and an electronic organ.
