Recall process to only disrupt Puerto’s momentum – mayor

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo Bayron yesterday welcomed the announcement of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that there will be no recall election against him, contrary to earlier reports.

According to the Comelec, there is no budget to fund the recall process.

Bayron said a recall election would only interrupt the current work of city officials.

“What’s more,” Bayron added,” the recall process will only disrupt the momentum behind the positive changes we have implemented and which are already manifesting improvements in the lives of our constituents here in Puerto Prin-cesa.”

Bayron said that contrary to claims by his detractors, Puerto Princesa is enjoying an ideal peace and order situation. “You can walk anytime in the night in the city without fear,” he said.

He added that in just seven months, 12,000 more tourists flocked to Puerto Princesa and the confidence boomed, resulting in the entry of 1,500 more investors.

The Comelec found the recall petition against Bayron sufficient in form and substance, but said it has no funds to bankroll the recall process.
