Groups stage prayer vigil for SC to junk RH Law

MANILA, Philippines - Prolife groups will stage a prayer vigil in Baguio City where the justices of the Supreme Court will conduct their final deliberations on the controversial Reproductive Health Law on April 8.

 

Led by the Prolife Philippines, the groups will be trooping to the City of Pines to call on the magistrates of the High Court to declare the RH Law unconstitutional as it purportedly promotes abortion as a means of family planning.

 

As this developed, an official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines has urged young people to oppose the implementation of the RH Law.

 

Rev. Fr. Conegondo Garganta, executive secretary of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Youth, said the decision of the SC on the RH Law will greatly impact on the future of the young people in the country.

 

The prelate said the RH law will promote a culture of immorality and contraceptive mentality among Filipinos. 

 

"Unang-una isa sa mga malaking issue ang ating patuloy na pakikihamok lalo na ng Simbahan na ating ipanalangin na huwag maging isang ganap  na batas na isasakatuparan ang RH. Ito ay may bahagi ng tulong ng mga kabataan na may paanyaya, ang panawagan sa kanila sa panalangin gayon din sa pagpapahayag ng kanilang pagtutol at pagtanggi sa tinik o balakid sa kanilang bukas. Sana magamit ng mga kabataan ang panahon na ito na makabuluhan," Fr. Gargenta told Radyo Veritas. 

 

Earlier, proponents and advocates of the RH law said they will try to convince the SC justices to lift the status quo ante order against the measure during the final deliberations in Baguio City.

 

They insisted that the more the SC delays the implementation of the law, the more Filipino women die while giving birth to their babies.
