Palace apologizes to public for long MRT, LRT lines
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Friday apologized to the passengers of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) for the difficulties in their riding experience.
"If the lines are long, we sincerely apologize to our fellow citizens about these difficulties," Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said at a televised press briefing.
Lacierda said the government understands the citizens' difficulties and that is why the government has both long- and short-term interventions to the problem.
He assure that the long-term solution, which is the purchase of new coaches, is already in process.
"We are now acquiring the coaches. That's the only way that we can alleviate the difficulties that we are encountering in the MRT," Lacierda added.
On the other hand, the short-term interventions seek "to provide really just comfort and to make sure that the trains run on time," according to the Palace official.
Lacierda said the government also wants to ensure that the integrity of the MRT and LRT platforms can be maintained. - Louis Bacani
