MANILA, Philippines - Authorities arrested two persons who have been selling fake money during a sting operation in Taguig City, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said on Thursday.

CIDG acting director Alexander Tagum identified the suspects as Violeta Bendijo and Virgilio Bocaba.

Tagum said that during the buy-bust operation along C-5  Road, Phase 2, Taguig City, authorities confiscated from the suspects 100 pieces of fake P500 bills amounting to P10,000.

The police official said that authorities conducted a test buy last Feb. 10 where they got from the suspects six pieces of counterfeit money in different denominations.

After examination by currency experts, Tagum said the pieces of evidence were found to be fake.

A case for violation of Article 168 of the RPC (Illegal Possession and Use of False Treasury or Bank Notes and other Instruments of Credit) was filed at the Prosecutor's Office of Taguig City.
