PAGASA declares start of dry season

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The cool northeast monsoon, locally known as Amihan, has receded on Wednesday, ushering the start of the dry season.

State weather bureau PAGASA said that the exit of cool winds from Sibera and the north Pacific Ocean will gradually increase the daily air temperature.

"The northward migration of the Siberian High Pressure Area, and the establishment of the Ridge of North Pacific High Pressure Area that extended to the north of the country have shifted the wind direction from northeasterly to easterly," PAGASA acting administrator Vicente Malano said in a statement.

Malano said that the weather starting Wednesday is expected to be "mostly hot and sunny" with warm and humid air.

Isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms in the eastern part of the country are also associated with the change in weather conditions.

"Strong easterly winds will prevail, particularly, over the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao with occurrence of moderate to rough coastal waters," the meteorologist added.
