Public school teacher shot dead in Zamboanga Sibugay

ZAMBOANGA CITY - An unidentified gunman shot dead a publis school teacher in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay province, early Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent Roy Bahian, provincial police director identified the victim as Rowena Abubakar, a teacher at a local private school in the province and a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Siay town.

Bahian said the victim and a companion were on their way to Imelda town when they were ambushed in Barangay Balugo at around 1:40 a.m.

The teacher died due to several gunshot wounds in the body.

The gunman ran to a waiting motorcycle driven by another person after shooting the teacher.

The provincial office of the Department of Education has condemned the attack.

Police have yet to determine the motive behind the teacher's killing.
