1 dead, 1 hurt in NBP riots
MANILA, Philippines - An inmate was killed and another was wounded in separate riots that broke out inside the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) compound in Muntinlupa City on Monday.
Quoting NBP Superintendent Fajardo Lansangan, state-run Philippine News Agency reported that the first riot happened at past 8 a.m. at the national penitentiary's baskeball court.
Inmate George Almo, believed to be a Sputnik gang member, was killed after he was attacked while on his way to the chapel inside the maximum security compound.
The report said that inmate Nol Ladiao was wounded after being stabbed with a bladed object by a Sputnik gang member identified as Enrico de Asis.
The NBP has implementd a "padlock policy" following the riots. Under the policy, visitors are temporarily barred from entering the prison compound.
