Projects awarded to peasant communities in NCotabato

John Unson - The Philippine Star

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - Three vital government projects have just been turned over to fledgling Moro and Christian peasant communities in three barangays in Kabacan town in the province.

The projects -- a P600,000 worth multi-purpose building each for Kabacan’s adjoining Barangays Poblacion and Malanduage, and a P2.5 million covered court inside a public school campus in Barangay Kaligasan -- were jointly constructed by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines and the office of North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza.

Mendoza led the turnover of the projects to barangay officials on Tuesday, in the presence of local officials and representatives from the municipality’s Muslim and Christian religious communities.

Kabacan Mayor Herlo Guzman told reporters he and barangay officials are grateful of Mendoza and the TUCP for having implemented the projects in the three areas, home to mixed Moro and Christian farmers.

The inauguration and turnover to beneficiary communities of the three projects were witnessed by two members of the provincial board, Maybelle Valdevieso and Jomar Cerebo.

Guzman said residents of the three barangays can use the multi-purpose buildings and the covered court as storage for their harvests, and as venue for peace dialogues and special gatherings.

Kabacan is a booming agricultural town in the third district of the province.
