Biñan City police chief sacked over twin attacks

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines – The police chief of Biñan City was relieved from his post yesterday following two attacks by motorcycle-riding men that took place in his turf.

Chief Superintendent Jesus Gatchalian, Calabarzon police director, said he has installed Superintendent Noel Aliño as officer-in-charge of the Biñan police in place of Superintendent Rizalito Gapas.

“All the chiefs of police know the existing policy. We want them to be pro-active in preventing and solving crimes in their (respective areas),” Gatchalian told The STAR.

Last March 1, Senior Inspector Jerry Uy was killed and his daughter was wounded in an ambush by motorcycle-riding men. Seven days later, a barangay councilman was critically wounded when he was waylaid by two men.

Gatchalian said he instructed not only Aliño but also all police chiefs in Region 4-A to set up 24-hour checkpoints and increase police visibility.

Gatchalian said more police chiefs are expected to be removed from their posts after the evaluation of their performance.
