Ex Cotabato vice mayor hurt, aide killed in road accident

John Unson - The Philippine Star

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines --- The chairman of the largest faction in the Moro National Liberation Front was injured in a vehicular accident Friday at a secluded stretch of the Cotabato-Gen. Santos Highway in Talayan town in the province.

Former Cotabato City Vice Mayor Muslimin Sema was rushed to a hospital in Davao City for medication, according to his relatives.

Sema’s aide, Bon-Bon Sinsuat, was killed in the accident.

Initial police reports indicated that Sema, leader of the most politically active group in the MNLF, and his companions were on their way home to Cotabato City from South Cotabato when their black Toyota Grandia van collided with a cargo truck coming from the opposite end of the highway.

“The former vice mayor is in a stable condition. The family decided to rush him to Davao City because hospitals there are more advanced and modern,” said one of Sema’s relatives.

Sema survived a near fatal ambush in Cotabato City in January 2012.
