TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels shot and killed a farmer in front of his family for allegedly committing crimes in Aparri, Cagayan last week, police said yesterday.

Belated reports reaching Cagayan police director Senor Superintendent Gregorio Lim identified the farmer as Reynaldo dela Cruz, 58, of Barangay Bukig.

The rebels reportedly picked up Dela Cruz and his family from their home and took them inside the compound of the Bukig National Arts and Technical School.

The NPAs reportedly enumerated Dela Cruz alleged offenses, including landgrabbing before killing him, said case investigator Police Officer 3 Emmanuel Padul.

Police recovered slugs for a caliber .45 pistol and a shotgun from the crime scene.
