ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines - A couple and their granddaughter were bludgeoned to death inside their farmhouse around noon on Monday in a remote village in Lantawan, Basilan.
Police identified the slain victims as Pablo Guerrero, his wife Teresa and their 5-year-old granddaughter Trixie, residents of Barangay Boalan.
Chief Inspector Basim Hassan, Lantawan town police chief, an unidentified group of suspects used iron pipes in the victims' slaughter at their own farmhouse in Barangay Switch Yakal.
Hassan said that the victims just visited the farmhouse and spent the weekend there.
The assailants ransacked the victims' belongings after the massacre and then escaped.
Responding police personnel who were alerted by the victims' neighbors recovered the iron pipes used by the suspects.
Hassan said they have already identified the suspects but have kept their identities due to ongoing operations.
