OWWA to help bring home OFW killed in Macau mishap

Ding Cervantes - The Philippine Star

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines   â€“ The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) vowed yesterday to help the family of Imelda Austria, 48, an overseas Filipino worker killed in a car accident in Macau after joining the charity walk of the Iglesia in Cristo on Saturday.

Austria’s nephew, Elder Laceda, said the body of his aunt has yet to be flown home. He said her friends do not know how to seek help from Philippine officials there.

Laceda said Austria’s husband and two children, who live in Barangay Hacienda in Porac, were having difficulty contacting the Philippine consulate.

The OWWA regional office in San Fernando City was informed of the incident only yesterday. OWWA case officer Mayolita David told The STAR she would inform higher authorities about Austria’s case.

The Macau Daily reported that Austria was crossing a road between Macau Tower and Sai Van Lake Square at about 10 a.m. when a private car hit her. She died later in a public hospital.
