CAMARINES NORTE, Philippines   â€“ Five people were confirmed dead while 46 others were injured in a collision of two passenger buses along the Maharlika Highway in Libmanan, Camarines Sur before dawn yesterday, authorities said.

Among the fatalities were the two drivers, Christopher Maquinana of the northbound Antonina bus with license plate EVP 923, and Elmer Bon of the southbound Elavil bus with license plate TYL 144.

Investigation showed that Maquinana lost control of the Antonina bus, causing it to swerve and occupy the opposite lane and eventually colliding with the Elavil bus.

Also killed in the accident were Orlando Olit, 43, conductor of the Elavil bus; Marvin Ablay, 25; and a still unidentified man.

The 46 passengers who were injured in the mishap were rushed to the Bicol Medical Center and Mother Seton Hospital in Naga City, Camarines Sur. â€“ With Cecille Suerte Felipe
