ZAMBOANGA CITY - At least 20 people, mostly teachers from Basilan, were hurt when a passenger bus crashed into a ditch early Saturday in a town along the highway of Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Chief Superintendent Juanito Vaño, chief of the Police Regional Office 9 (PRO), said the passenger bus of the Rural Transit Mindanao Inc. (RTMI) was traveling from Marawi City bound for this city when it met the accident at Barangay Monching, siay town at about 12:46 a.m.

The bus, with body number 9372 driven by Charlito Pepito Buot, 48, was forced into a ditch after avoiding an approaching truck on the highway.

The police said at least 20 passengers were hurt, most of them teachers from Basilan and delegates of the recently concluded Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao  Athletic Association (ARMMAA) held in Marawi.

The victims were brought to the hospital at the nearby town of Kabasalan for treatment.
