Rebel leader, pal nabbed for murder

CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Lucena City , Philippines   â€“ A an alleged ranking official of the New People’s Army (NPA) facing murder case and his companion were arrested by a combined police and military team in Naga City, Camarines Sur yesterday morning.

Sylvestre Layones, alias “Ka Dex,” and “Ka Mel” was reportedly the head of the NPA’s Regional Urban Committee and a member of the Bicol Regional Party Committee, according to Southern Luzon Command chief Lt. Gen. Caesar Ronnie Ordoyo.

Layones was arrested based on a warrant issued by Legaspi Judge Frank Lobrigo for the crime of murder.

Authorities placed under custody a certain Christopher Edrinal who was with Layones during the arrest. The two were brought to the Naga City police office for investigation.
